Cultural Historical Activity Research for a Socially Just World: A Video Conference Symposium

The SAT SIG would like to invite contributions to a symposium we will be running at the 2019 AARE Brisbane Conference.

You do not have to travel to Brisbane (or pay any membership or conference fees)

All you have to do is submit a three-minute video in the style of Famelab/3minute thesis Please contact Brendan Jacobs if you are thinking of contributing a video.

b.jacobs@cqu.edu.au.

The videos can just be narrated PowerPoints (or more sophisticated). It needs to address the following two questions:

  1. What is the social justice issue you are addressing? (remember the environment and sustainability are social justice issues)
  2. How have Cultural Historical and Activity Theories helped?

These will be compiled, placed online (you will be given a link) and shown as the central part of the symposium.

We will patch you into the symposium (if you cannot make it in person) for the introduction and discussion.

Program

  1. Introduction to cultural-historical activity and social justice activism and research. (20 minutes)
  2. Video compilation of three-minute talks in the style of Famelab/3minute thesis. (40 mins).
  3. Commentary and discussion (30 mins). We will have the video compilation online and broadcast the introduction and discussion with text/audio/video lines open for questions and comments from the rest of the world.
  4. Response and summing up (10 mins)

Possible outcomes

  1. A book/special issue: We will promote it at the conference to publishers and journals.
  2. A proposal for symposium at the International Society for Cultural-historical Activity Research (ISCAR) triennial congress in Natal, Brazil, 2020 if there is interest
  3. The development of research collaborations with other researchers
