SMSI: Secondary Mathematics and Science Initiative
Graduate Certificates in Secondary Mathematics and in Secondary Science.
- Are you currently teaching 7-10 mathematics or science out-of-field, without full qualifications in the field?
- Do you want to earn a funded qualification to improve your knowledge and practice in teaching mathematics or science?
- Are you a qualified science teacher with one discipline major but could benefit from further study in teaching and learning in other science disciplines?
SMSI is an exciting partnership between the Victorian DET and Deakin University that offers a fully funded one-year Graduate Certificate at Deakin. This includes funding to your school to support substantial release time for you to undertake the course.
Each of the Graduate Certificates represents an innovative and research-informed course design focusing on contemporary, evidence based approaches to teaching and learning supported by committed and enthusiastic lecturing staff. SMSI also offers extra return-to-study supports.
The face to face intensives will be supported by a sophisticated cloud-based platform and resources including online discussion forums and a facebook page.
The courses provide an opportunity to collaborate and learn together with colleagues from schools across Victoria.
